Answers to commonly asked questions about financial coaching

These are just a few of the most common questions people ask us. If you have other questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • A financial coach is someone who objectively helps you win with your money by understanding your situation, providing information and knowledge to deal with it, and offering up encouragement that you can move forward with confidence. Think of a financial coach as the general contractor for building a home. The general contractor has the master plans and helps coordinate the specialists (plumber, electrician, etc.) to make it all happen. A financial coach helps you create the master plan, deal with bumps along the way, and recognizes when to bring in specialists (insurance agent, CPA, financial advisor, etc.).

  • I am a graduate of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Coach Master Training program. I’m passionate about helping others win with their money so that they can experience freedom. Through 20+ years of intentionally following the principles of Dave Ramsey, my family is a testament that this stuff works.

  • Most sessions are done virtually through Zoom or Google Meet. If you’re in the Grand Rapids, MI area, in-person sessions can be arranged.

  • A session lasts about 60 minutes. Typically, we’ll meet once or twice a month. This allows us to discuss your situation, create a plan and track progress as you go. How many sessions we have depends on your needs. Most clients meet over a period of 3-6 months.

  • Pricing depends on your situation. Some people may need help with just the basics. Others may have more complicated issues that require more time and commitment. The complimentary consultation is the time when we will go over your financial situation and lay the groundwork for moving forward. We’ll go over pricing upfront so you’ll know ahead of time.

  • Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-lesson course that teaches the fundamentals of finances. It’s fantastic and a great way to learn a proven plan for your money. We highly recommend it. Financial coaching complements FPU quite well. FPU lays the foundation, while financial coaching gives you the one-on-one attention and customized plan tailored to your unique circumstances. Think of the difference as attending a workout class vs. working with a personal trainer. It’s more specialized attention.
